Graph represents 33 community clinics in Ho Chi Minh City that have been reporting daily patient counts and ILI counts since August 2009. The %ILI number is simply the percentage of patients each day that meet the clinical definition of ILI. For this graph, we compute how far each clinic’s %ILI number deviates from its median %ILI value. The y-axis above shows the %ILI-deviations averaged over all 33 clinics and smoothed with a weighted weekly moving average.

Previously, these data were presented by showing the %ILI deviation from a baseline that was computed from the bottom tercile of the data. We initially presented the data this way, as this was the common data presentation in temperate countries with pronounced troughs in ILI activity. For tropical regions, we no longer believe that this is the most informative presentation of these data. For comparison, purposes the old version of the graph is shown below

Graph represents 33 community clinics in Ho Chi Minh City that have been reporting daily patient counts and ILI counts since August 2009. The %ILI number is simply the percentage of patients each day that meet the clinical definition of ILI. A baseline for each clinic is defined by taking the bottom tercile of all the daily %ILI data points. The above plot shows deviations from this %ILI baseline, averaged over 33 clinics, and smoothed with a weighted weekly moving average.
